Kyrgyz Parliament Declares Self-Dissolution

(MENAFN) In a decisive move, members of Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament, the Jogorku Kenesh, voted on Thursday to dissolve the current legislature ahead of schedule.

"At the Sept. 25 meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputies reviewed and adopted a draft resolution 'On the self-dissolution of the 7th convocation of the Jogorku Kenesh,'" confirmed the Parliament's press service.

The resolution was proposed by MP Ulan Primov, representing a group of 32 lawmakers behind the initiative.

"The interval between two important political events -- presidential and parliamentary elections -- is a short period of time; therefore, in order to strengthen the political system and stability in the country, the initiative group proposes that the parliament voluntarily relinquish its powers," Primov stated.

The motion garnered overwhelming backing, with 84 deputies voting in favor.

Kyrgyz media quoted Parliament Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu as saying that, following legal procedures, early parliamentary elections are scheduled for Nov. 30 this year.

According to the Kyrgyz Constitution, the Jogorku Kenesh is a unicameral body comprising 90 members serving five-year terms. Previously, parliamentary elections were planned for November 2026, with the presidential vote slated for January 2027.
